First Responder Learn basic life-saving techniques and earn a First Responder certification in school! The First Responder class is typically offered to students entering the 11th grade. The class is ideal for those who are considering a career in emergency medicine, allied health, or nursing. It's also great for students on pre-medicine and pre-dental tracks! Advance your skills, earn college credit, and become a nationally registered emergency medical technician (EMT) by enrolling in the EMT-Basic class. In this class, you will learn more advanced life-saving techniques and delve into greater detail about the human anatomy and emergency health conditions. You will also get real patient care experience as you complete 24 hours of clinical internships aboard an ambulance or in a hospital emergency department.
EMT-Basic is the minimum level of training recognized by many allied health employers. If you are entering the 12th grade and are interested in a health-related career, this is the class for you! Ask your school counselor how to get started. First Responder certification is a prerequisite for the EMT-Basic class.
